Taylor Swift Wins 3 American Music Awards

Taylor Swift Wins 3 American Music Awards

Congratulations to Taylor for her three AMA wins! She brought home Artist of the Year, Favorite Music Video for folklore and Favorite Female Artist (Pop/Rock). In her acceptance speech, Taylor revealed that she couldn’t attend because she was busy rerecording her music! We’re so proud of Taylor and can’t wait to see what the future holds!

Taylor Swift won three American Music Awards Sunday night, including the top “favorite artist” honor — explaining her absence as due to being busy in the studio re-recording her entire Big Machine catalog.

The climactic favorite artist award came as something as a surprise, since Swift’s name had not come up as a winner any time earlier in the three hours, leading to an underlying assumption that she might have been shut out in some or all of the four categories she’d been nominated in. But host Taraji P. Henson said after Swift’s filmed acceptance that she had also won favorite pop/rock female and favorite music video (for “Cardigan”), awards that were presumably left off-camera because Swift had only submitted one speech, or to heighten the final element of surprise.

“The reason I’m not there tonight is I’m actually recording all of my old music in the studio where we originally recorded it,” Swift told the viewing audience. “So it’s been amazing and I can’t wait for you to hear it.”

This was not a surprise to fans, since Swift had declared that she was already at work on a re-do of the catalogue this past week, while she was releasing a statement confirming that her master recordings had been sold without her consent yet again, this time by Scooter Braun’s Ithica Holdings to Shamrock Capital.

But Swift seems very much to want to emphasize her current recording status to fans, and/or to Shamrock and Braun.

Earlier Sunday, Swift had posted to Twitter a black-and-white photo of herself relaxing on a couch with the message, “Not a lot going on at the moment.” Fans immediately knew this was one of the star’s Easter egg moments, not an admission of laziness, since she’d posted the identical ironic caption when she was secretly beginning the recording of “Folklore,” her latest release, back in the spring. This time, she definitely doesn’t want to keep it a secret.

“This is a fan-voted award, which means so much to me,” she said. “You guys have been beyond wonderful all the years of my career, but especially this one, when we’ve been so far apart. .We haven’t been able to see each other in concert, but I still feel really connected to you through the music,” Swift said, citing “your reaction to ‘Folklore’ and all of the ways in which your imagination honored that album.”

The only one of her four nominations Swift missed out on a win for was favorite pop/rock album, which went to Harry Styles for “Fine Line.”

With these three trophies, Swift broke her own record for the highest number of AMA wins, upping her tally from 29 to 32. The previous record-holder was Michael Jackson, with 24.

Other three-time winners were The Weeknd (favorite male soul R&B artist, favorite soul/R&B song, favorite soul/R&B song) and Dan + Shay (collaboration of the year, favorite country song, favorite duo or group).

Swift’s big AMAs haul precedes by a day and a half the announcement of the nominations for the 2021 Grammys, where “Folklore” is expected to contend as well.

Taylor named Songwriter of the Year at Apple Music Awards

Congratulations Taylor! She won “Songwriter of the Year” at the 2020 Apple Music Awards for folklore! Watch her acceptance speech below!

While she’s likely to score a bunch of Grammy nominations next week, Taylor Swift has just scored a special honor: She’s been named Songwriter of the Year at the second annual Apple Music Awards.

This past year, Taylor’s surprise album folkore set a record for the most-streamed pop album on release date. In her acceptance speech, Taylor said, “Winning Songwriter of the Year in any capacity in any year would be so exciting, but I think it’s really special because this particular year was a year where I really feel like songwriting was the one thing that was able to keep me connected to fans that I wasn’t able to see in concert.”

“I wasn’t able to reach out my hand and touch somebody’s hand in the front row, I wasn’t able to take pictures with fans, so this, it means a lot to me,” she continued.

“My songwriting, and the way that fans respond to the songs I write, and the kinda dialogue back and forth, and that kind of emotional exchange, is what I feel like has really kept me going this year,” said Taylor. “And I really want to say thank you to the fans for that.”

Songwriter of the Year is a category that was chosen by Apple Music’s editorial team, as was Artist of the Year and Breakthrough Artist of the Year. The other Apple Music categories, like Top Song of the Year and Top Album of the Year, were based on streaming data that showed what users of the platform were listening to this year.

The winners of the other categories were rappers Lil Baby, Megan Thee Stallion and Roddy Ricch.

Taylor Talks About Red on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums Podcast

“Red” is featured on Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Album Podcast! Taylor Swift explains how Red changed her life. The talk is honest and we are so lucky that Taylor shares so much with us! Listen to the podcast below and let us know your thoughts!

In the second episode of our new series on Amazon Music, Swift tells us how ‘Red’ took her from country sensation to bona-fide pop superstar

In the the second episode of our new podcast on Amazon Music, Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums, we tackle one of the best and most important albums of the past decade: Taylor Swift’s 2012 pop masterpiece Red.

Swift joins host Brittany Spanos to discuss why this is her “one true break-up album” and how she was becoming aware of her own mortality just as she was about to release her fourth album. At 22, Swift was already America’s favorite country singer. But with Red, she grew up with a bona fide classic that touched on pop, dubstep, arena-rock and more, and set up the rest of her career (very much including this year’s Folklore). Later in the episode, Rolling Stone staffers Claire Shaffer, Rob Sheffield and Brian Hiatt join Spanos to discuss the album’s legacy.

In September, Rolling Stone unveiled the new version of the 500 Greatest Albums poll. It’s a completely updated version of our most read, most argued-over list ever, made with help from a group of voters that included Beyonce, Taylor Swift, Stevie Nicks, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and members of U2, as well as writers, critics, and figures from across the music industry.

Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums goes inside the making and the meaning of 10 albums from the list, featuring fresh stories from the artists who recorded them and insights from the Rolling Stone staff.

The podcast appears exclusively on Amazon Music, with new episodes each week. Check out the Red episode above, and listen to every episode here.

Taylor Covers Rolling Stone with Paul McCartney

Taylor Covers Rolling Stone with Paul McCartney

This year’s special issue of Rolling Stone’s Musicians on Musicians features Taylor Swift and Paul McCartney! They talk about songwriting, making and releasing albums during lockdown and what they’ve learned during the pandemic. You can see the cover photo below and stay tuned for more info!

On songwriting secrets, making albums at home, and what they’ve learned during the pandemic. The first in a series of new conversations between artists

Taylor Swift arrived early to Paul McCartney’s London office in October, “mask on, brimming with excitement.” “I mostly work from home these days,” she writes about that day, “and today feels like a rare school field trip that you actually want to go on.”

Swift showed up without a team, doing her own hair and makeup. In addition to being two of the most famous pop songwriters in the world, Swift and McCartney have spent the past year on similar journeys. McCartney, isolated at home in the U.K., recorded McCartney III. Like his first solo album, in 1970, he played nearly all of the instruments himself, resulting in some of his most wildly ambitious songs in a long time. Swift also took some new chances, writing over email with the National’s Aaron Dessner and recording the raw Folklore, which abandons arena pop entirely in favor of rich character songs. It’s the bestselling album of 2020.

Swift listened to McCartney III as she prepared for today’s conversation; McCartney delved into Folkore. Before the photo shoot, Swift caught up with his daughters Mary (who would be photographing them) and Stella (who designed Swift’s clothes; the two are close friends). “I’ve met Paul a few times, mostly onstage at parties, but we’ll get to that later,” Swift writes. “Soon he walks in with his wife, Nancy. They’re a sunny and playful pair, and I immediately feel like this will be a good day. During the shoot, Paul dances and takes almost none of it too seriously and sings along to Motown songs playing from the speakers. A few times Mary scolds, ‘Daaad, try to stand still!’ And it feels like a window into a pretty awesome family dynamic. We walk into his office for a chat, and after I make a nervous request, Paul is kind enough to handwrite my favorite lyric of his and sign it. He makes a joke about me selling it, and I laugh because it’s something I know I’ll cherish for the rest of my life. That’s around the time when we start talking about music.”

Taylor Swift: I think it’s important to note that if this year had gone the way that we thought it was going to go, you and I would have played Glastonbury this year, and instead, you and I both made albums in isolation.

Paul McCartney:Yeah!
Swift: And I remember thinking it would have been so much fun because the times that I’ve run into you, I correlate with being some of the most fun nights of my life. I was at a party with you, when everybody just started playing music. And it was Dave Grohl playing, and you…
