Do you have any study tips? I'm horrible at studying. I can't stay focused (I have the attention span of a gnat) and I just don't really know how to study well. I've gotten through everything thus far by bsing my way through but I really need to be able to study

Hellooo this ended up being hella long so I put it under the cut. 🙂

I get off track every five minutes so I totally get that. (If tumblr was dead and taylor wasn’t pulling this shit it might be better lmao) Just sit at a table or make your bed and sit on that. (I find it much easier to fall asleep if my bed isn’t made. no joke) I would definitely find an isolated and quiet environment. If I can’t find a quiet environment I put in headphones and listen to studying music on Spotify.

As far as studying is concerned, it first starts with asking questions in class. Make sure to ask your teacher / professor what the main points are if they don’t already tell you. I love when teachers give outlines or study guides but if they don’t then it can be a little harder. I’m in a situation now where I don’t know what any of my professors tests are like so I’m just studying everything.  However once you take your first test, you’ll know how specific that professor is or not.

As actually studying, BE ORGANIZED. Organize your notes in class. A personal opinion of mine is starting with big topics and bullet pointing under neath for information. Like so:

Studying Tips

  • Use highlighters, sticky notes, or markers to note what’s important and what’s not.
  • Write notes. There is an actual study that says you are more likely to memorize information if you write it down vs. anything else
  • Find a quiet environment
  • Always study early and do not cram on the night before.
  • Notecard are amazing because you can question yourself and the ones you’ve gotten right you can put those in a separate pile and work on the others. If you’re cramming the night before notecards are also very useful

This kind of style is very organized. I would high light studying tips and then highlight the important tips beneath. Not everything is going to be important. I probably would highlight “Find a quiet environment” because it’s an obvious one and if it was on the test I’d know it.

ANOTHER IMPORTANT THING. Tie everything together. I watched an interview once and it was full of people who exceed in school and tests and stuff. They said when it came to studying they linked all their information together. So instead of memorizing facts they actually connected the dots and remembered everything like a story. That might sound hard but it’s not and let me give you an example:

Say we’re talking about the Taylor Swift tour right? Say you had a test and you had to remember costumes, costume changes in order, order of songs, etc. Sure you could remember every detail but if you put everything together like a story line your more likely to remember because you can recounter each step like watching a film in your head. Does that make sense?

Like I mentioned before, use flashcards. They’re a gift from God and therefore should be used. Like I said, separate them into piles based on how well you know them.

ALSO SOMETHING I LEARNED LAST YEAR. When you go to class on test day, i recommend just talking to a friend about whatever. I had a teacher in high school that always said “you either know it or you don’t at this point” and it’s so true.Just relax before taking your test. If someone asks the teacher a quick question and the answer the teacher gives them is confusing, ignore it and trust your studying. Same goes for people around you, don’t mess up what you know because you heard Becky over their say something different.

And my last tip for actual test taking is to not go back unless you ABSOLUTELY need to. I lost more points changing my answers. Go with your gut.

LASETLY: Breaks are important. Give yourself a break. Eat a snack drink something. You need to rest your brain. There is no benefit to frying your brain. Take a break. Take break in between breaks or whatever works for you. Five to ten minute breaks depending how long you’ve been working. Set a timer or something to determine this!

If you have more questions, ask me!
